CanAm Defender Track FAQs
The HD10 is the better platform for tracks. It has the power and cooling capacity to handle the additional load without strain. The HD5 will run tracks, but you'll notice it working harder — especially in deep snow or steep terrain.
Yes, but with some limitations. Tracks reduce your top speed to around 25-30 mph, so you won't be towing on highways. For short-distance towing around a property or job site, it works fine. Just stay within the track system's weight rating.
Most track systems fit both the standard and MAX models with the same kit. The MAX's longer wheelbase actually improves track stability. Check the fitment guide for your specific year and model to confirm.
Expect a top speed of around 25-30 mph on tracks versus 40+ on tires. Acceleration is slower too. But where tracks shine is terrain where tires literally can't go — deep snow, mud, and soft ground where speed doesn't matter because forward motion does.

Maintenance Tip
The Defender's lockable diff is a track owner's best friend in deep snow — but unlock it on hard surfaces to prevent drivetrain binding.
